"Monster Island," the 2019 "mockbuster" of The Asylum, came out at the same moment as "Godzilla: King of the Monsters." It's about a mysterious island called Monster Island. There, a monster lives. And the monster is, in some way, the island.


This movie is about an asylum. The budget for it is the same as a big child's (blog post) meal, and it uses it sparingly. It's a movie about a few people and only a few of its major characters are featured. The entire cast can be film on lunch break, so it focuses on the smaller human characters. But let's not forget that this is a kaiju movie, and that's kind of how they go, so maybe The Asylum won't do such a bad job with it?
